Richard Milhous Nixon, 1913-1994.  37th President of the United States.  Outstanding presidential-date portrait of a smiling Nixon, inscribed in calligraphy, signed Richard Nixon, and dated by Nixon May 16, 1969 beneath his signatureWith the original White House envelope.

This is a magnificent 8" x 10" vintage black-and-white portrait of Nixon by famed New York photographer Philippe Halsman, whose imprint appears in the lower right corner.  Halsman took this pose when he took Nixons official presidential portrait, which shows Nixon wearing the same suit and tie, in early 1969.

This is not a typical Nixon photographfar different from the serious shots with which Nixon filled post-presidential autograph requests.  This one instead captures the joyous, private side of Nixon that assistant Monica Crowley extolled in Nixon Off the Record.

This photograph is stamped February 11, 1969, on the back.  It thus was printed just over three weeks after Nixon's inauguration on January 20, 1969.  Nixon signed and dated it some three months later.

This photograph is exceptional, one of the finest Nixon signed images that we have ever seen. The signature is a tad discolored, typical of felt-tip pen signatures, but is nevertheless bold.  The original White House envelope is unaddressed, showing that the photo was likely hand delivered.

Unframed.
